downgraded isn't really the right term, it's just the film was mastered to a format that could be played on TV, as you can't just broadcast film stock, it needs converted first. Wham (1984) - The blurry mountain shots are from videotape as the original film was too severely damaged/lostįilm has no resolution, so even 16mm can be transferred to 4k. Here are some of the best examples I've found, and I'll be updating the thread as I find more:Ĩ0s playlist (many of these appear to have been taken from 16mm film so not technically 4K, but still nice transfers) The David Bowie one, in particular, looks like it was shot yesterday, it really does feel like being transported back to 1997 Some of these remasters look absolutely stunning, as with old movies on 4K Blu-ray, it's great seeing things you grew up with given a new lease of life for modern technology. While we've been used to seeing these on the likes of MTV over the decades in SD, it turns out many of them were originally shot on 35mm film before being downgraded to either videotape of SD digital to be distributed.
